Question: Does the ArtixScan M1 or ArtixScan M1 Pro have DIGITAL ICE?
Answer: Neither the ArtixScan M1 nor the ArtixScan M1 Pro have DIGITAL ICE.

Question: What is the difference between the ArtixScan M1 and the ArtixScan M1 Pro?
Answer: There is no difference in the scanner. The difference between these two products is the bundled software and accessories. The list of contents for each product is provided on the following pages:

Question: Can the user manually select the focus position for scanning?
Answer: No. There are no manual controls in the hardware or software for adjusting the focus position. The best focus position can be set with the auto-focus feature which is controlled by the ScanWizard or SilverFast software.

Question: Can I download the user manual?
Answer: Yes. The documentation for the ArtixScan M1 and ArtixScan M1 Pro is available online in PDF format and can be downloaded from http://support.microtek.com/product_dtl_2.phtml?prod_id=316

Question: What is the scan time for scanning film?
Answer: The scan time is a function of many variables including scan resolution, scan area, multiple sampling, and other features of the scanning software. The total scan time includes time for the following actions: initializing the scanner, adjusting the focus, moving the scan head to the location of the scan frame, acquiring the data (i.e., scanning the film), and transferring the data to the computer. The time for some of these actions depends on the configuration of the computer and the type of connection between the scanner and the computer. Sample scan times for acquiring the data are provided as examples.

Question: Can the user wet mount film on the included glass tray?
Answer: Yes. Users can wet mount film to the glass tray for scanning. Microtek does not provide the tools or supplies needed for wet mounting film. Care should be taken to ensure the fluid is contained on the glass and does not come in contact with the holder at the edges of the glass.

Question: Can I remove and clean the glass platen?
Answer: Yes. An instruction document in Adobe PDF format is available for download. This document has step-by-step instructions on the proper procedure for removing and cleaning the scanner’s glass platen. Download PDF document.

Question: When I install the Microtek ScanWizard Pro software, should I install the Microtek Scanner Server software?
Answer: The Microtek Scanner Server (MSS) software is a separate but integrated scanner server utility program within ScanWizard Pro. The Microtek Scanner Server software is an optional utility which provides scanner access to people (clients) in a work group through their local network. Customers who do not intend to share the scanner over a network should not install the Microtek Scanner Server software.

Question: Does the ArtixScan M1 come with tools to make an ICC profile for the scanner?
Answer: Yes. The Microtek Scanner ICC Profiler software and Kodak IT8 targets are included with the ArtixScan M1. These tools enable the user to create an ICC profile for the scanner that can be used in the ScanWizard Pro software for color management.

Question: Does the ArtixScan M1 Pro come with tools to make an ICC profile for the scanner?
Answer: Yes. The Microtek Scanner ICC Profiler software and SilverFast IT8 targets are included with the ArtixScan M1 Pro. These tools enable the user to create an ICC profile for the scanner that can be used in the ScanWizard Pro software for color management. SilverFast Ai Studio software from LaserSoft Imaging is also included with the ArtixScan M1 Pro. The SilverFast Ai Studio software has a powerful and easy-to-use feature called AutoIT8 Calibration. The SilverFast AutoIT8 Calibration feature works with the included SilverFast IT8 targets to quickly and easily make an ICC profile for the scanner and integrates that ICC profile into a color managed workflow in the SilverFast Ai Studio software. The AutoIT8 feature in SilverFast Ai Studio is one of the valuable tools included with the ArtixScan M1 Pro.

Question: What medium format film sizes fit in the 6cm film holder?
Answer: The medium-format film holder for the ArtixScan M1 and ArtixScan M1 Pro has an open area of 6cm by 22cm. This film holder will accommodate all 6cm wide film up to a length of 22cm. One or more frames can be held in the film holder. For example: one frame of 6x17cm film, 2 frames of 6x9cm film, or 3 frames of 6x7cm film.

Question: When using the SilverFast software included with the scanner, I get bands or lines across the image. What can be done to fix this problem?
Answer: SilverFast version 6.5.5r1 is included with the scanner. A bug was found in this version that caused the banding in the image. Please update the SilverFast software to version 6.5.5r5 (March 26, 2008) or a newer release. The update to version 6.5.5r5 is free and can be done online at www.silverfast.com/get_update/en.html.

Question: A normal scan appears overexposed (too light) after using the Multi-Exposure feature in the SilverFast software included with the scanner. What can be done to fix this problem?
Answer: SilverFast version 6.5.5r1 is included with the scanner. A bug was found in this version that caused the exposure problem. Please update the SilverFast software to version 6.5.5r5 (March 26, 2008) or a newer release. The update to version 6.5.5r5 is free and can be done online at www.silverfast.com/get_update/en.html.
